Visitor regulations at Sealcentre Pieterburen

The Sealcentre is first and foremost a charity. We are the seal hospital of Europe. The well-being of the animals comes first. Therefore we have a number of visitor regulations to make your visit as pleasant as possible (for the seals and yourself).

  • It is forbidden to:
    • Touch the seals.
    • Feed the seals.
    • Cross the rope barriers unless one of our employees gives permission.
    • Make noise.

  • Seals may carry infectious diseases that can be passed from animals to humans. This can also happen the other way around: humans may infect seals through close contact. That is why it is important for everyone's safety to respect the indicated boundaries.

  • The Sealcentre is a smoke-free zone. There are no smoking areas and smoking is prohibited on the entire premises. This applies to all (e-)cigarettes and other smoking products.
  • Always follow the instructions of our employees.

  • Our employees may deny you entry if you do not comply with our rules. Visitors are not entitled to compensation in this case.

  • Dogs are not allowed in the Sealcentre, except for assistance dogs (please notify us in advance).

Practical information

A few practical considerations:

  • A visit to the Seal Centre, located in the WEC, is only possible with a valid WEC entrance ticket during opening hours. This entrance ticket also gives access to the interactive experience and research laboratories. Tickets can be ordered online. With your visit you support our important work.

  • The Sealcentre is accessible for people with wheelchairs, prams and pushchairs.

  • There is a disabled toilet. For more practical information, visit the WEC website.

  • Our information boards are available in both Dutch and English. Tours can be booked in Dutch, English and German.

  • The Sealcentre works with an international team of employees and volunteers who come from all over the world. Please be aware that English is our working language and that some presentations are given in English.
