It is getting closer: after more than 50 years in Pieterburen, we will move to the port of Lauwersoog. Here, we will become part of the WEC. From 26 April 2025, you can visit us here. Read more about our move below.
Why are we moving?
The facilities in Pieterburen are outdated and suffer from overdue maintenance, making renovation very costly. Moreover, we would like to create awareness about both the seals and their habitat: the Wadden Sea. That is why we chose a location right by the sea.
The WEC will be our new home. This sustainably built venue in the harbour gives us the opportunity to tell a broad story about the Wadden Sea and its inhabitants. The seal hospital will of course be a big part of this.
The seals move with us and remain visible to visitors. The animals will have modern facilities with the same specialised care at our new location. The Sealcentre will continue to exist as a foundation and become part of the WEC. Our current activities, such as prevention and research, will also continue. (Photo: Kai Harper)
